Rogue from Marvel Rivals is probably the coolest hero you'll never get a chance to play.

It's important to be able to admit when you're wrong, and I can definitely say I was wrong about Rogue. marvel rivals. Like everyone else, I expected her to become a strategist and join the backline with Remy Lebeau to keep her team in battle. And while this was fine, two strategists in a row would have had a fairly mediocre season in two other roles. But in reality, Rogue is a Vanguard, so she'll be on the front lines of every battlefield, and she's incredibly interesting. While I had previously expected that overwatch 2's Vendetta will steal the show this December. I don't think that's the case anymore. Rogue looks absolutely perfect, but now I'm worried that NetEase may have inadvertently gone too far with her kit.

when marvel rivals When Rogue releases on December 12th, she'll be bringing her iconic Savage Land look with her alternate costume. This outfit is one you'll see often, considering how many people inevitably want to feature her as the main character. Rogue's difficulty level could be 5 stars. This indicates that she is by far the most difficult Vanguard to master and is in the same tier of characters as Spider-Man. However, the sheer potential of her kit means players won't be deterred by her high skill level and similarly high ceiling. In the right hands, Rogue has the potential to be a menace. That means there are two big reasons why it's difficult for Rogue to get playing time.

Problem 1: Typical new hero release cycle, but amplified

any marvel rivals Players (or hero shooter fans) probably know what happens when a new character is released. The excitement is palpable and everyone wants a chance to try out the new additions, but only one person per team can access the new features. This sees a race to pin the Instagram of whoever the latest hero is. Multiple players will hover over that character and only one will be lucky enough to get there first. For more niche heroes, this Instagram lock will only last for a few days, but for popular heroes like Gambit, it will be difficult to access the hero during the first week of release. Unfortunately for main Vanguard players like myself, the hype around Rogue means it won't be available until mid-December.

Players also have skills that make it easier to quickly select the items they want. marvel rivals The hero assigns that character to the attack team and remembers exactly where to place the cursor. This makes it difficult for casual players to try out additional heroes until sweaty gamers get “bored” with the latest characters.

This is especially problematic given the complexity of the Rogue kit. Because her iconic power-reaching is captured in-game, Rogue users essentially have to learn one ability from almost every hero on the roster. This will take time, as few players can say they have mastered every member at large. marvel rivals gibbs. But if players won't be able to use Rogue consistently until later in the launch month, and it will require weeks of practice to know for sure who can steal it and when to take it, then for most gamers Rogue won't be viable in competitive play until Season 6. Still, the second barrier to using her would rear its ugly head.

Rogues can copy the following abilities: marvel rivals:

  • Hulk's Thunderclap

  • Doctor Strange's Shield

  • Groot's Big Wall

  • Magneto's magnetic bubble

  • Tendrils of Poison

  • Emma's Diamond Form (no chokes and kicks)

  • Reduced damage to objects

  • Thor's awakening state

  • Storm speed/damage buff

  • Hela's Stun

  • Scarlet Witch's Stun

  • Magik's Demon Teleport

  • Squirrel Girl's Hop

  • Spider-Man's Uppercut

  • Namor's Squid

  • Psychorock's Invisibility

  • Wolverine's Cry

  • Blade's life absorption/healing amount decreased

  • Daredevil's Mark

  • Human Torch's self-firing shield

  • Iron Fist's Meditation

  • Loki's Rune

  • Mantis's Sleep

  • Blind and Bubble in Cloak and Dagger (depending on the character being copied)

  • Luna's Snowball

  • Jeff's Bubble

  • Gambit's Spades (Damage) Deck

  • Invisible Woman’s Push/Pull

  • Adam Warlock's Soul Bond

For heroes where Rogue cannot gain abilities, she only plays a passive role. The typical role is that the character is human and doesn't have proper superhero powers, so it's not worth copying.

Issue 2: Rogue from Marvel Rivals will be a prime target for bans.

in marvel rivalsThere are certain heroes who regularly fall victim to bans. At the lower ranks, Peni Parker is regularly picked on because her pod is viewed as a nuisance, while Black Panther and The Hulk have spent several seasons essentially stuck on the bench. Sometimes it's the team composition that results in these insta-bans, like Wolverine or Phoenix, while other times it's related to a recent buff, or even a character like Jeff gets banned because he's considered a toss-up pick. For Rogue, it's likely her ultimate ability that's causing all the bans, not ability steals or melee combos.

This work is called Heartbreaker. marvel rivals Ultimate sees Rogue stealing the statistics of those captured by Ultimate to strengthen her allies. The buff is determined by the role of the affected enemy. More importantly, enemies caught by Rogue's Ult will drain their own Ultimate charges, essentially preventing Rogue's powerful Strategist Ultimates from being used if she has a good grasp of the enemy team's Ult economy. If players find Peni Parker annoying, there's no doubt that they'll hate playing against Vanguard, who can reject Ultimates from their team. Rogue will then be banned. Essentially, she's destined to be a “take it or don't” character.

This worries me because I'm tempted to give Rogue a try, but I know I won't have many opportunities to do so over the next few days. Then, when you get to use her, you have to wonder if mastering her is worth it. That's because you probably won't be able to use her much in comps due to how controversial her ultimate is likely to be. Rogue looks cooler than I imagined, but her addition is a bit bittersweet as NetEase's opinion of Anna Marie may be too strong for her own good.
