Final Fantasy 7 Remake developers are almost considering making Cloud's Buster Sword more realistic.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake gives players the opportunity to play the fan-favorite title with current-gen fidelity. It also gives Square Enix the opportunity to change, improve, or include content that wasn't possible in the original release. A lot has changed, including expanding the title to three games, but it seems like the developers have almost considered changing one of the iconic details that has been lost.

Cloud's Buster Sword is one of the most recognizable weapons in the gaming industry. This massive weapon has undoubtedly inspired greatswords in other titles since it first appeared in 1997. With the remake, the developers seem to have considered making the Buster Sword more realistic. Especially considering how big it is.

Cloud's Buster Sword was almost downgraded in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

In a conversation with Julien Chièze via GamesRadar+, director Naoki Hamaguchi explained that the developers wondered if they should make the Buster Sword look more realistic, but ultimately decided it was “too iconic” to change. Can you imagine how fans would react if the game released smaller versions of iconic weapons?

Hamaguchi explained, “There was this sense of weight while making the remake.” “It feels like Cloud’s sense of reality would be diminished if he were to swing it with one hand, right?”

Pokémon Legends: ZA is the first game where you can truly learn from the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Real-time combat works surprisingly well in a game that was once entirely turn-based.

He added, “So when we were making the remake at the time, there was discussion about whether we should give Cloud a more realistic version of the Buster Sword.” “But it was so iconic that players wouldn’t have accepted it if it were just a plain old sword.”

This is one of the dilemmas developers can face when trying to make old games look more realistic. Thankfully, Square Enix decided not to scale down the weapons, while retaining their massive size from the original version of the game. I really doubt that long-time fans of the series would have taken it well. Especially if it was in the name of realism.
