with Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Since launch, players will guide bounty hunter Samus Aran across an alien planet and battle all kinds of aggressive wildlife, angry robots, and some old enemies. Longtime fans of the franchise will recognize the name Sylux, as this rival bounty hunter first appeared in 2004.
You will now battle him once again. Because the first actual boss fight against Sylux takes place in the Volt Forge immediately after dispatching the Flight Drone MCU. Here's everything you need to know about how to defeat Sylux and avoid his attacks.
How to defeat Sylux
Sylux is a very aggressive enemy, boasting multiple attacks that can be thrown in quick succession. These attacks include:
|
attack |
explanation |
|---|---|
|
homing missile |
Sylux creates six guided missiles above his body and fires them in sets of three. |
|
energy wave |
Sylux flies into the air and slams into the ground in front of him. This creates a large wave of energy that you can jump over. |
|
melee dash |
Sylux quickly dashes to his last known location with his arms raised in front of him, spinning 180 degrees in front of him the moment he approaches you. |
|
filming |
Sylux fires his cannons at the player while on the ground or flying through the air. |
|
energy tornado |
This move can only be canceled when Sylux has about 75% health remaining. The shield covers all parts of the body except the feet, allowing it to reflect projectiles. Sylux will spin like a top and try to crash into you. |
|
energy bombardment |
Sylux moves to the center of the map and fires three sets of energy bombs in a circular fashion around himself. The subsequent wave of bombs progresses further away from Sylux's position in the center of the room. |
When combat begins, Sylux will use a combination of homing missiles, energy waves, melee dashes, or simply fire shots. Homing missiles can be avoided by dashing to either side just before the attack or detonating them until they are destroyed. If he uses an energy wave, you can simply jump over it before it reaches you, and avoid the melee dash by sidestepping him as he charges towards you.
During this time, It's a good idea to focus on shooting Sylux and minimizing damage. If you really need missiles or health, the Homing Missiles have a chance to provide a pickup if you detonate them before they hit. Keep blasting Sylux until it reaches about 75% health. This causes him to enter the second stage of pseudo.
When Sylux places an energy barrier around him, he scans it and then transforms into a Morph Ball. Now you get to play a game of chicken with Sylux. Move anywhere along the outer wall And wait until he lunges at you. When he does this, dPlace the three psychic bombs in a line and move them out of the way. If done correctly, the bomb will explode and damage Sylux.
This part may take some time to get the timing down, as Sylux's movements can be quite erratic at times. The trick is to make him hit the wall. Because this will give you a better open and more decisive path for him to follow.
After damaging Shillux three times with Psychic Bombs, he will fall from the spin attack and fall to his knees. Quickly pop out of his morph ball form and blast him with rockets. He will then recover and fly to the center of the map. Sylux now performs Energy Wave or Energy Bombardment attacks.
If the latter, this is your best chance to actually harm Sylux. Even at maximum range, his bombs can't reach you if you're standing against the back wall. So get there quickly and keep shooting at the stationary bounty hunter. If you have missiles, now is the time to put them down for good. Once he reaches half health, Sylux will revert to his energy tornado form and repeat the same steps listed above.
The only problem is that after Sylux takes damage, Energy Tornado starts to gain speed. Eventually, he will slow down again, so focus on avoiding him until he returns to his normal speed. Also, if Sylux gets out of the energy tornado, he can mix in a few melee dash attacks, so watch out for him charging at you.
Hold on to this until Sylux's health is depleted and a cutscene is triggered. As compensation for your trouble, you'll get a free energy tank and can continue your progress through Volt Forge.
