God Of War is not the game Geoff Keighley is teasing, Cory Barlog has revealed.

Over the past few days, “Gaming Twitter” has been going crazy over a recent post from The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley. This post features a statue in the desert with a rather interesting creature that isn't all that different from what we've seen in The Elder Scrolls, God of War, and Diablo.

Well, it looks like Cory Barlog, the director behind the two most recent God of War titles, has crossed off God of War from the list of potential outcomes, as he's gone on a collision course to let everyone know about Luke Stephens' recent Twitch stream.

“No, not GOW.”

Well, I don't mean to be a conspiracy theorist, but I just said Balrog is not GOW. He did not specify which GOW he was referring to. It's 2025 and Gears of War, another GOW of the gaming world, is now out on PlayStation.

A few years ago, Gears was still on Xbox, so we took what he said at face value. And the idea that it would be on any console other than Microsoft's flagship console would have been considered absurd.

The Game Awards

The Game Awards don't care about the future of video games

With the abandonment of Future Class, The Game Awards made its intentions clear.

Well, now we live in a reality where GOW can have two different meanings. Luckily, as of this writing, we're only 10 days away from The Game Awards, so we'll know for sure when then. Still, that hasn't stopped all kinds of pipedream theories from springing up.

The fact that I still have no idea what this statue is teasing will haunt me until December 11th.

As my colleague James documented at TheGamer, things have only gotten weirder since Geoff sent his first post to the internet.

Because the three words Jeff shared refer to a spot in the Mojave Desert and the statue is a real object that people can visit.

Not only is it real, but if you end up in the middle of nowhere at any time of day, if it's night, the thing actually glows bloody red, turning the statue from a God of War teaser to a Diablo teaser in a matter of hours!

In other words, it's not a GOW at the moment, but it might be a GOW. And the same goes for Diablo and The Elder Scrolls. Heck, let's make things more interesting and throw some Doom into the mix.
