one piece Fans around the world associate Luffy's voice with his iconic voice actress, Mayumi Tanaka. Takaka has voiced the character since the anime adaptation debuted in 1999.
Tanaka will always be known as the voice of Luffy, but she is not the first person to voice the Straw Hat captain. Now, almost 30 years later, Luffy's original VA is back in animation.
Luffy's first voice actor returns as Joyboy
Luffy's voice actor was Urara Takano in the 1998 OVA special.Defeat him! Pirate Ganzak!” was produced by Production IG and released about a year before Toei's adaptation. Now, Takano returns to the anime as the voice of Joy Boy.
Takano's voice Joy Boy can be heard during Emet's brief flashback in Episode 1151. It all happens very quickly, but there's an unmistakable familiarity to it. Takano seems very happy to be returning to the series, and it looks like he will continue to voice Joy Boy in the future. We don't know exactly how often she'll appear and voice the character, but we'll likely hear her reprise the role at some point.

Even though he was alive hundreds of years ago. one piece It's happening. Could casting the voice actor who once voiced Luffy hint at some connection between the two characters?
The two are already connected through Gomu Gomu no Mi. With Luffy awakening Hito Hito no Mi (model: Nika) and serving as the second coming of Joy Boy, this could all just be fun Easter eggs the studio has in store for fans. But we've seen important characters connect with each other in a variety of ways throughout the series.
Does Luffy and Joy Boy's shared voice acting hint at some sort of deeper relationship that we haven't learned yet? In the end, the only person who can answer that is Oda. We'll have to wait and see what Toei's decision means beyond a fun callback.
