ROG Xbox Ally brings default game profiles and other improvements
Xbox has been actively listening to feedback since the launch of ROG Xbox Ally a month ago and has been working hard to develop new features to address these early criticisms. One of these features is available in today's ROG Xbox Ally update, but only for users who have the preview feature turned on. Starting November 25th, ROG Xbox Ally owners will now have access to the default game profile. This profile automatically turns on when you boot one of the 40 currently supported titles, and includes the following list: Gears of War: Reloaded, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Doom: Dark Agesand fortnite.
Simply put, these new default game profiles ensure a more efficient experience that is individually tailored to each game. If your target FPS isn't met while playing one of these games, ROG Xbox Ally sacrifices battery life to increase handheld performance and deliver a smoother gameplay experience. Conversely, when your game exceeds your target FPS, ROG Xbox Ally automatically limits the frame rate to extend your console's battery life. Xbox Wire uses the following example: Hollow Knight: SilksongIt reportedly adds “about an hour of battery life” while still delivering 120FPS when using the default game profile.
While the default game profile is the main event of this ROG Xbox Ally November update, there have also been other tweaks made to improve the handheld's technical performance and UI, all of which are detailed in the patch notes below. Xbox Wire also teased several other features heading to ROG Xbox Ally soon, including a game save sync indicator coming next week, improved microSD formatting options coming early next year, and AI-powered automatic super resolution.
