Jennifer English is currently a darling of the video game industry. After her complete transformation into Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3 and Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, fans are eagerly awaiting her performance in Tides of Annihilation. But English seems to be crazy about other things overall.
Although the actor has admitted to appearing in a few not-so-great titles, he has developed an enviable reputation for appearing only in bangers. But playing a conflicted pagan and a reality-bending painter isn't enough. She's also set to appear in Soulframe, the upcoming MMO from Warframe developer Digital Extremes, which she says is “part of her dream.”
Jennifer English's role in Soulframe is the part of her dreams
Speaking to GamesRadar+ at the Golden Joystick Awards, English said she absolutely loves her role as Alora, the Empress of Eldveil, in Soulframe. “Oh my God, it’s part of my dream,” she said. “I play the role of a fairy empress, whose morals are aligned with nature itself.” Plus, she added: “I have a bit of a Welsh accent and it's really exciting.”
There isn't much information about Alora, but earlier this month English revealed that Alora will voice a character who speaks poetically as Number Three. Considering Soulframe is an MMO, she'll likely be a central part of the story, perhaps even a quest giver of some sort. Considering the popularity of the English language, it is highly unlikely that Alora will appear as a minor or side character.
Jennifer English of Clair Obscur is right. Queer Joy is worth pursuing, regardless of the cost.
Jennifer English, who won Best Performance at this year's Golden Joysticks, spoke about how important queer joy is in her life.
After Baldur's Gate 3, English became one of the most recognizable voices in the gaming industry. Those playing Expedition 33 couldn't help but feel like Shadowheart was yelling “Parry!” Every time Nebron makes a massive attack in the game. Of course, English's performances of the two characters were otherwise very different.
As for dream roles, English recently told TheGamer that if he were given the opportunity to create his dream project, it would be outside the video game industry, namely in the form of a queer genre film. “I definitely want to make some kind of queer genre film,” she said. “I don’t know what it is, but I want to work with the Avengers of girls, them, gays, and allies. It’s really inclusive, it’s cool, and it’s something that hasn’t been done before.”
