Best MHA Female Characters

While spoilers are kept to a minimum, the article covers the manga, anime, and even the Vigilantes anime spin-off.

My Hero Academia was one of the most popular manga in Shonen Jump for roughly a decade, and the series came to an end in August 2024. While the source material is done, the anime is nearly finished, with the final season debuting in Fall 2025. MHA is an incredible story of how, in a world of unique abilities called Quirks, Izuku Midoriya became the Number One Hero despite originally not having any powers. As with most popular shonen, My Hero Academia has a decent female cast.

My Hero Academia: 18 Strongest End Of Series Characters

My Hero Academia has some incredibly overpowered characters and these are the ones who stand out on top.

While the manga and anime receive quite some flak for their handling of their female characters, most of them are still iconic in their own right. While My Hero Academia’s girls tend not to get the same level of attention as their male counterparts, the anime is still home to some well-written characters.

Updated on October 27, 2025, by Mark Sammut: The best MHA female characters discussion is nearly done as the anime is airing its final few episodes. Issues aside, the show has generally been great, and the same can be said for most of the roster’s women. We have tweaked the galleries for each character, along with adding one person who tends to be overlooked: Inko Midoriya.

Nemuri Kayama (Midnight)

The R-Rated Hero Of MHA

  • Quirk: Somnambulist
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Akeno Watanabe
  • English Voice Actor: Elizabeth Maxwell

Midnight is one of the most polarizing My Hero Academia female characters, despite being, at best, a minor player who barely does anything during seasons 1 to 5. While sentiment around her might change if Vigilantes gets a second season, Midnight is mostly seen as a fanservice character who has a costume and theme that are inappropriate for her role as a high school teacher.

Crucially, Midnight contributes very little of substance throughout the anime, despite being introduced in season 1. Most of the teachers, to be honest, barely get any development, but Midnight builds no connection with any of the students during most of her run, with that only changing in season 6. By that point, it was a little too late.

Along with agencies, My Hero Academia has hero teams that specialize in unique types of missions. The Wild, Wild Pussycats focus on mountain and forest rescue operations, and they are energetic characters who are extremely capable, deceptively so, as they tend to come across as silly most of the time. Except for Tiger, the team consists of female heroes: Mandalay, Pixie-Bob, and Ragdoll. Mandalay serves as the group’s leader since her Quirk allows her to communicate across long distances, but all four members are essentially equals and contribute to the team’s success. They are definitely stronger as a unit than as individuals.

Although they are a very small part of MHA, the Wild, Wild Pussycats are hard to forget due to their colorful aesthetic and fun personalities, and they have a certain Super Sentai charm to them. They also appear in enough arcs to feel like they have a constant presence throughout the anime, even if their contributions generally amount to just a few minutes of screentime.

Chiyo Shuzenji (Youthful Heroine: Recovery Girl)

A Helping Kiss

  • Quirk: Heal
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Etsuko Kozakura
  • English Voice Actor: Juli Erickson, Luci Christian

Recovery Girl is arguably not among the most memorable MHA female characters, but she serves an important role as part of U.A. High School’s staff. Taking nursing to the next level, Chiyo’s Heal Quirk is extremely useful, allowing her to fix both minor and relatively serious injuries. Considering she works at a school that regularly stages explosive practical training sessions, her ability comes into constant use, although Recovery Girl is not a miracle worker either. She speeds up the recovery process, so there is nothing she can do if an injury is beyond rehabilitation.

While making an appearance in nearly every arc, Chiyo is the definition of a bit-part player, albeit one who students and Pro Heroes respect. She also does not hesitate to reprimand patients who are pushing themselves beyond their limits, and she is willing to make tough decisions if she believes it would be in their best interest.

Toru Hagakure (Stealth Hero: Invisible Girl)

The Invisible Hero Of U.A

  • Quirk: Invisibility
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Kaori Nazuka
  • English Voice Actor: Felecia Angelle

Toru is largely sidelined in My Hero Academia, which is a bit disappointing since her invisibility could be a great and flexible power. The author does not focus on her much, that is, until it is time for her to shine. In the Final War Saga, she plays an extremely essential role, and, just like the other students in her class, she does her part in the operation to combat the villains.

Like quite a few of the main students, Toru has to wait way too long to get her moment in the spotlight, which ends up causing her to be forgettable despite having a great Quirk. Her shy personality is fine, but she does not stand out except for the fact that she is invisible.

19

Inko Midoriya

Deku’s Mum Is Going Through Her Own Hell

  • Quirk: Unnamed (Attracts small objects to her)
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Aya Kawakami
  • English Voice Actor: Jessica Cavanagh

Honestly, it is easy to forget about Inko. Deku’s mother is in a handful of episodes, but her appearances are infrequent. When she shows up, she tends to be overshadowed by other characters, specifically her son and All Might. Her Quirk does not even have an official name, and her characterization does not go much further than “Midoriya’s mum.” At the end of the day, she is barely a minor character.

Yet, Inko is still an important part of the My Hero Academia story, beyond just the fact that Deku would not exist without her. Although she tries to be supportive of her son’s desire to become a hero, she is worried sick about him, and she struggles to deal with the fact that he is constantly in danger. At one point, she breaks down in front of All Might and Deku, begging the latter to come home and put everything behind him. This is one of the most real moments in the anime.

18

Melissa Shield

The Star Of MHA: Two Heroes

  • Quirk: None
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Mirai Shida
  • English Voice Actor: Erica Mendez

Due to primarily appearing in the Two Heroes movie, Melissa Shield is arguably one of the more underrated MHA girls, even though she is part of the full canon. While Quirkless, she is among the smartest characters in the series, and she uses her big brain to invent quite a few impressive items, including for All Might.

Even though her screentime is limited, she accomplished a lot, at least going by the relatively underwhelming standards set by other female characters. Personality-wise, Melissa is just pleasant. She tends to approach things with an optimistic attitude and tries to see the best in most people.

17

Manami Aiba (La Brava)

Gentle Criminal’s Sidekick

  • Quirk: Love
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Yui Horie
  • English Voice Actor:Megan Shipman

La Brava might be a small character in the grand scheme of things, but she is an exciting one that Horikoshi seemed to go all out on in terms of design. She’s quite quirky; however, her Love Quirk can be powerful, although it is the definition of a support ability. She is also a master hacker, which makes her pretty useful to Gentle.

16

Anna Scervino

A Tragic Movie-Only Female Character

  • Quirk: Overmodification
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Meru Nukumi
  • English Voice Actor: Kayli Mills

One of the newest My Hero Academia girls, Anna Scervino plays a prominent role in You’re Next, the fourth movie in the franchise. Very much a tragic figure, Anna has led a life of isolation and suffering, especially once she fell into the hands of the Gollini mafia organization. Her ability, Overmodification, allows her to boost other Quirks, making them far stronger than their initial form. However, this result is not guaranteed, since not every Quirk is compatible, and Anna does not have much control over its impact and reach.

Due to being a movie-only character, Anna’s popularity and exposure cannot compare to any of the best MHA female characters who appear regularly in the TV series. That said, she is one of the best parts of You’re Next, and she also has a great design that lets her stand out from the crowd.

15

Eri

The Hope For The Next Generation

  • Quirk: Rewind
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Seiran Kobayashi
  • English Voice Actor: Emily Neves

Eri might just be the most influential female character in My Hero Academia. Initially, she was introduced to the fans as a victim of the Shie Hassakai, thanks to her rewind powers, which she was abused and exploited for a long time. Eventually, Eri was saved by Deku, and from there onwards, her growth has been staggering.

My Hero Academia: 13 Characters With The Saddest Backstories

When it comes to sad and tragic backstories in My Hero Academia, these characters in the anime series have had it the worst.

Eri has not only learned to trust people, but she has also gotten stronger, both physically as well as mentally. She has also learned to control her Quirk, and her days of pain are behind her. Of course, the scars are still there, but Eri has taken great strides in life. Right now, she is involved in a plot that might help her shape the fate of the entire world. Among all the female characters in My Hero Academia, Eri might just have the most important role of all.

14

Kyoka Jiro (Hearing Hero: Earphone Jack)

Earphone Jack From Class 1A

  • Quirk: Earphone Jack
  • Japanese Voice Actor: Kei Shindo
  • English Voice Actor: Trina Nishimura

Kyoka Jiro is one of the more reserved students in Class 1A. Despite that, she is known to be extremely capable in battle. Jiro has a very kind personality, although she may not show it. She thoroughly enjoys music and everything related to it. In fact, even her powers are related to music as she possesses a quirk named Earphone Jack.

This Quirk has turned Jor’s ears into earphone jacks, which she can plug into things and use the vibrations of her own heart to deal internal damage to them. She can also notice the faintest of sounds and track enemies better than most. With her Hero Equipment, Jiro can use several powerful techniques that are based on vibration. In the Final War, she even managed to fight against All For One to a great degree and played a significant role in damaging his mask and even disturbing his sense of balance.
