The Ten Great Houses are an essential part of the Tower and its politics, as they form the ruling class. They are considered nobles, standing directly behind the Tower's ruler, Zahard, in the hierarchy, as the heads of their houses are some of the first to ascend the Tower's dangerous levels.
The Ten Great Houses, all of which have vast power, wealth, and influence, have shaped the political and social fabric of the Tower for thousands of years. In Zahard's absence, the heads of the houses form a regency council that oversees the Tower's activities, and in Zahard's presence, they are his most trusted friends and advisors.

The ruling class of the tower
Zahard and the twelve great warriors were suddenly on the first floor of the tower, with no explanation as to how they got there. They were the first irregulars, but they are no longer called irregulars because they were such important figures in the history of the tower. After ascending to the 134th floor, Zahard decided not to advance any further, which caused two of his comrades to fall out with him and the rest of their group. So when Zahard declared himself the king of the tower, only the ten great warriors who joined him were recorded in the annals of history.
Zahard and these ten great warriors made a pact with the Guardian to gain immortality, which made them in a position to rule the tower forever. These great warriors gave birth to children who formed the great houses. According to SIU, the writer of the manga, Kun Eduan was inspired by Dionysus, and Yeon was inspired by Hestia, the virgin goddess of the hearth, so it is possible that the Greek pantheon of Olympian gods inspired Zahard and the ten houses. The daughters of these houses are selected every few hundred years to compete with each other to gain the title of Princess Zahard and join his house as brides, as part of a program devised by Po Vidau Gustang.
The chosen ones are gifted with Zahard's blood and are also granted great power and authority, and have greater influence among the other residents of the tower. The ten great houses are allied with Zahard's empire, but are under no obligation to aid Zahard, with only the Lophobia House sending troops when Zahard needs them. This may explain why Zahard and Lophobia Traumerey share a stronger bond than the other house leaders.

A collection of the most powerful characters
The 10 warriors (Arie Hon, Khun Eduan, Ha Yurin, Tu Perie Tperie, Eurasia Blossom, Po Bidau Gustang, Yeon Yirang, Ari Han, Lo Po Bia Traumerei, Hendo Lok Blodmadder) are comparable to themselves in terms of strength, but not in terms of their clans. The Arie, Khun, and Ha clans are the strongest, but the clan leaders bring some kind of balance. So they use covert tactics, such as the violent competition between the Zahard princesses, to eliminate the female powerhouses of the rival clans.
In anticipation of the coming war with House Po Bidau, Lo Po Bia Traumerei and Zahard attempted to bring Baam to their side, claiming that he had the potential to become as powerful as the heads of the houses. This was a move that would see them gain an advantage over all other houses that held power.
Different families and their notable features
Each family has distinct characteristics
The Arie family, led by Arie Hon, is the most powerful and influential family in the Tower. Renowned for their swordsmanship, they have conquered the largest territory among the Ten Great Families by force. Khun Eduan has the most wives and, by extension, the most branch families. Due to the number of children in the family, they host formal fights each year, where the winners are highly praised and the losers are ignored. The ability to wield a spear, great intellect, and affinity for lightning and ice are some of the notable traits of the Khun family. The Ha family, led by their leader Ha Yurin, is renowned for their physical strength and martial arts.
The Two Perry family's specialty is information gathering. Their leader, Two Perry Tperi, is the greatest herald of light in the history of the Tower. The Eurasian family is well known for their affinity for controlling the Divine Beasts and for producing one of the most powerful Zahard princesses to date, Eurasian En Zahard. This was the cause of the downfall that led to the conflict between the Eurasian and Four Vidau families. The Four Vidau family's specialty is research and information gathering, but they are also excellent at controlling the Divine Beasts.
For reasons known to Po Bidau Gustang, they turned their backs on the Zahard Empire and have been at open war with the Lo Po Bia clan ever since. The Ari clan is the complete opposite and is known for their pacifism and their prowess with needles (a type of knife-like weapon used for stabbing attacks). The Yeon clan is not descended from Yeon Yirang, but from her cousin Yeon Llarde. This is because their matriarch decided to remain a virgin. Every five years, they select a man who wants to share Yeon Llarde's bed, and whoever is chosen to father a child with Llarde is accepted into the clan once the child is born.
The Lophobia family is closest to the Zahard Empire and is famous for its anima. The Hendo Locke Bloodmother family has a short lifespan due to the contract they made with the Guardians for eternal life, so they decided to have as many children as possible. This family is still the weakest because they have the fewest rankers and the strongest children are adopted. Their Divine Beast resistance is top-notch and their ability to defend against attacks from the tower is unparalleled.
