Veilguard pre-orders are selling “within expectations”

Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been available for pre-order since mid-August, allowing fans to finally get their hands on the next chapter in the series after a decade-long wait. Now, early sales appear to have impressed the publisher, with EA stating that there is “strong demand” for Dragon Age.

This comes from EA’s investor day showcase, which streamed last week. As BioWare blogger Felassan noted, pre-order sales for Dragon Age: The Veilguard are “tracking within expectations.” That doesn’t give exact numbers, but it does suggest the series is in a good place as its release date approaches.

During the showcase, EA talked about the early progress of The Veilguard, as well as the fan and press response to recent previews.

“This is doing what BioWare does best: immersive storytelling, memorable characters, and gorgeous worlds,” said Laura Millet, president of EA Entertainment. “The Dragon Age community is excited, the press response has been incredibly positive, the game looks great on console and PC, and we’re already seeing strong demand on the biggest platforms.”

Chief Financial Officer Stuart Canfield also commented on The Veilguard’s sales: “We are excited about the launch of EA Sports FC 25 next week and Dragon Age: The Veilguard in October, both of which are currently tracking within our expectations.”


This isn't all that surprising, considering that the last game in the series, Dragon Age: Inquisition, is widely considered BioWare's best-selling game of all time. In fact, longtime BioWare veteran Mark Darrah recently said that Inquisition's release ” [financial] In 2014 we went back to “quartering”.

EA's confidence in The Veilguard comes as the game becomes the latest target of an online culture war. This has been simmering since the reveal trailer, but it's only gotten worse with the appearance of the character creator preview, revealing the most detailed and comprehensive customization options in a BioWare game to date. For some reason, the nerds online think this is a bad thing, but it's not all that surprising since they've been howling about every trailer so far.

Dragon Age: Valeguard launches on October 31st.
