If you're playing on PC, it's also important to remember that you don't need to modify the game files for the crossplay feature to work. The two main options for crossplay are session hosting and session joining. To set up these features, follow the guide below.

How to host a session

When you start a game and select Continue Game or New Game, you will see some settings on the right side of the screen. Whether you're setting up a new game or continuing to use an old save file, the session hosting process works the same way.

The first option is server activation. You must toggle this setting online to host sessions. Turning this feature on will allow you to toggle other settings in the list. The next thing you want to change is server visibility. Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, crossplay functionality is not available if server visibility is set to Friends. Instead, you should set this option to public. You can set a password for your session to prevent random people from joining. That said, as of this writing, there are some restrictions on signing up random players.

If your server visibility is set to public, you will need to enable crossplay. Once you've done this, you'll want to make sure the Max Players option is set to 8 or lower. At the time of this writing, it is not possible to host sessions larger than this. That way, your friends won't be able to find your world. Once this is done, you can load the world and your friends can join in as well.

How to join a session

Joining a session is much simpler than hosting a session. Select Join Game when loading the game. Here you will need to enter the gamertag of the person you wish to join.

Enter the person's name and press Start Search. If the name is correct, it will pop up and you can connect to that server. If your friend has set a password for your server, you'll need to make sure they have that password. Otherwise, you won't be able to be with your friends. Once inside, you can explore, loot, and kill enemies with your friends.

Crossplay restrictions

Server restrictions will end in 7 days

Unfortunately, the crossplay feature has some limitations. 7 days to die The biggest problem is the lack of dedicated servers. According to the update's patch notes, dedicated servers are in the works, but crossplay currently only works in peer-to-peer games. Dedicated servers are scheduled to launch with the game's next major update. A storm brewing.

There are also limits to world size and number of players. The more players there are on a particular server, the greater the risk of performance issues. The better your system or console, the smoother the gameplay will be.

The maximum world size at the time of this writing is 8192. This is still a pretty good map size. However, some players will want the ability to play on larger maps in the future. It's unclear whether the developer will increase the map size limit further for crossplay.

Another thing worth noting is that the maximum number of players supported for crossplay is eight. Some players may wish for more, but eight players is still a significant number. It is unclear whether this number will be increased by Fun Pimps in the future. Additionally, it is not possible to host modded worlds on PC. It is important to remove or disable the mod before setting up a crossplay session.

Unfortunately, not everyone has access to the crossplay feature at the moment. Those playing the Japanese PS5 version of the game can't play with friends on other consoles yet. This is expected to change soon, but no specific date has been set. The only thing known about this is that the issue is expected to be resolved early this year.

Other notable Update 1.2 features

If you get on the banned list within 7 days, you die.

7 Days to Die Update 1.2 introduces some useful bug fixes and improvements, some of which are aimed at making crossplay easier. One issue prior to this update was that Xbox and PS5 players were unable to find their friends in the server browser. This issue has now been resolved.

You can now find the Blocklist in the Settings menu. This is a much-needed feature as it allows players to block cheaters or malicious players while also tracking their names and preventing them from re-joining. Unfortunately, cheating and heartbreak is something that happens in almost every online game. Being able to have an active block list will help you keep these players away.

There are also some new graphics options that will give players more control over game performance. This is great for people playing on systems that may struggle to host crossplay sessions with the best graphics. Alternatively, those playing on top-of-the-line systems can now increase the overall graphics quality to incredible levels.

Another thing to note is that the game's Blood Mood Scaling is now better. This means that the number of enemies and the overall difficulty of the enemies spawned better matches the skill and game stage of the players within the session, making it ideal for playing with friends.
