Paladins are a group of warriors who serve Imu, the ruler of the world. They are led by Figarland Garling, who led them through the Rocks and Roger eras. Paladins are a group of powerful individuals with abilities that defy logic itself. Their authority is surpassed only by Gorosei and Imu themselves. One of the greatest threats to world governments
Xebec was a notorious pirate whose name was feared by world governments. He was a member of the infamous Davy family, hunted by the world government. Xebec rose to power at an astonishing rate, defeating the Admiral at a very young age and infiltrating Mariejois himself. His list of accomplishments goes on and on, and he is said to be Roger's greatest enemy. One of his other accomplishments was that he was able to beat Figarland Garling in the God Valley incident. Xebec was on the island to save his family from being massacred. Garling was the one who brought the wrath of the World Government upon the islanders. He paid a heavy price when he faced Xebec, and was soundly defeated by him without breaking a sweat.

Edward Newgate was a prominent man of the Old World. He earned the respect of both Roger and Xebec for his supernatural powers. He was a strong character that everyone feared. Although Whitebeard possessed an extremely powerful Devil Fruit and Haki, rivaling Roger's in his prime, he was not an ambitious man and only tried to be close to those he cared about. One of his closest allies is Xebec, who aided him in God Valley to save his family. Plus, he slashed the paladin with one slash, essentially saving the dragon's life by hitting her with no problem. The paladin was alive, but he was embarrassed by what happened to him as he was defeated by someone with a single attack.

Skopev Gavan appeared in the Elbaf episode, showing off his strength and leaving an unforgettable impression. During his fight with Luffy, he used his overwhelming strength to force Luffy to use Gear 5. He is one of the most powerful pirates alive today and is adept at using Haki. He can use all three types of Haki and can use all advanced forms, a very rare trait. Gaban used an advanced form of Haki against a paladin named Shepherd Sommers. He was the first character in the series to show the Paladin's weaknesses, and showed Luffy the path he must follow to fight against these immortal beings.

When Rayleigh led an attack against the Holy Knights, he came face to face with Somers Shepard. He then hits him with one of his named moves that sends him flying through the wall. It was a very powerful attack that made Sommers realize that Roger's first mate should not be taken lightly.
